Helen Payne
Labour County Candidate for Cadoc

I’m Helen Payne and I am standing as a Welsh Labour candidate in the local elections on 5th May.
I am from Cadoxton and my family span the history of Barry from the very beginning, working on the railways, docks and in the national health service.
I am a carer and single mother and have been your Barry Town councillor for the past five years and will continue this work on the Vale Council. I am a Projects Manager for Llamau, supporting vulnerable young people and know how vital youth services are to our community, something I will continue to fight for. I am passionate about the wellbeing of our community and run the Well bean Café Project supporting those who need it most from across Barry and the Vale.
I will campaign for community wellbeing initiatives, developing youth and play services, supporting our elderly residents. and funding for services protecting mental health. I am keen to see children and young people thrive and have a sense of purpose in life. The wellbeing of our children is so important now more than ever in the wake of the pandemic.
Throughout the pandemic I have been involved in online wellbeing groups as well as groups for young people and parents from Cardiff and The Vale. I am currently the link councillor for Barry Youth Council a trustee of Barry YMCA and Vice Chair of Vale Youth Forum.
I care that we have clean air to breathe and natural resources that will last for our future generations and that is why I am against the biomass incinerator. I care that we do not have proper funding for our NHS and that services continue to be outsourced. We need to ensure that health services are accessible to all. I care that young people in particular are suffering from mental health issues and our services are in crisis, we have a high suicide rate and it is something we need to focus on before more young lives are lost. I care that the Black, Asian and minority ethnic people continue to suffer discrimination and that casual racism and sexism on social media is acceptable, when plainly it is not! I will challenge prejudice in all its forms.
It is so important that you vote Welsh Labour in the election on 5th May so that the work that has begun can continue,(you have received the leaflet through your letterbox explaining the achievements of the Council) the Labour led Vale of Glamorgan Council continues to be the best performing council and I will scrutinise the work of the council and celebrate the good work that I know happens everyday in providing services to the public as your Cadoc ward councillor.
