Neil Thomas
Labour County Candidate for St Augustine's

I grew up in Cardiff and first moved to Penarth in the early 70’s.
I am proud to represent St Augustine’s ward here in Penarth as elected member on the Vale of Glamorgan Council since 2017.
When the council changed leadership to Labour part way through since the last election I am delighted to have raised funding to protect public transport in my ward. We have upgraded many of our parks and play areas in the ward as you will all know.
The pier pavilion was in real danger of being lost to us due to financial difficulties but we have managed not only to rescue it but to make it profitable.
Our town centre remains vibrant and has one of the highest occupancy rates in Wales and I will continue to work to support our local business community.
One of the most important jobs for a local councillor is working with individual residents and families who are experiencing difficulties. This work, by its very nature must remain confidential but I am extremely proud of my many successes in this area.
COVID has placed huge pressures on us all but one of the things I regret is that we have been unable to have our weekly surgeries for face to face meetings and I look forward to these restarting as soon as possible. Having said that we have worked extremely hard and I believe successfully in protecting our vulnerable people, care homes local economies while still delivering 21st Century Schools to replace nearly all our ageing high schools and some of our primaries and I want to be part of continuing this in the next few years, giving our young people and future generations the best education.
Penarth is a fantastic place to live and work but we can all experience difficulties and I look forward to being able to help support you when you need help.
