Philip Robert Johns
Labour County Candidate for Buttrills
I’m Phil Johns, one of your candidates for the Buttrills Ward of the Vale of Glamorgan.
I’m married to a Barry girl and moved to Barry from Fishguard in 1983, both our sons went to Gladstone School and then to Barry Boys Comprehensive and our two grandsons are on the same track with one in Gladstone and one in Whitmore High.
I worked as a chartered surveyor, in rural practice and cattle auctioneering in West Wales then in development on moving to Barry. I have worked for & with some of the major housebuilders and the former Land Authority for Wales. I started my own practice in 2001 with a diverse range of clients including housing associations, housebuilders and car sales companies. More recently I developed a client base in the renewable energy sector. During the first Covid lockdown the time seemed right to close my business although I still retain links to a sustainable and renewable energy proposal in Milford Haven.
A substantial part my career involved urban renewal projects, most of which were contentious and taught me the need to involve the local community to ensure successful outcomes to the satisfaction of all parties. I believe that the pursuit of sustainable and zero carbon development is key to our future and wellbeing.
During my time in Barry, I have coached age group rugby at Barry RFC, been an active member and chair of Barry Boys Comprehensive PTA, and an active & competing member at Jacksons Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.
Closing my business gives me the opportunity to offer my experience to help my community and local council by giving something back to the community. I believe that I can use my experience to help ensure a greener and more sustainable future for us all in the Vale.
Labour is the party of fairness, inclusion and opportunity for all for me it is the only choice for a fairer greener future.
