Charlotte Davies
Labour County Candidate for Wenvoe
I’m Charlotte Davies, your Welsh Labour candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan Council in the Wenvoe ward.
I was born and grew up in Barry, and have never left the Vale. I’m very proud to call the Vale my home. During any free time I get, I enjoy field walks with my dog, hand knitting socks and scarves, and watching hours and hours of period dramas.
What really spurred my passion for my Labour values in the community was the loss at the 2019 General Election, and we were once again subject to cruel policies leaving the most vulnerable behind. I joined the Labour Party when I was 16 and have hit the ground running in campaigning for my party ever since. I have always been Labour to my core due to having always been influenced by my grandparents’ values, Labour values of equality, diversity, and fairness, and I will bring these values to the role as a Vale of Glamorgan Labour councillor.
I am passionate about fighting to protect our local environments and green spaces. The global climate crisis is the most important issue for my generation, and generations to come after us. The Vale Council has made strides in protecting and enhancing our local environments, undertaking projects for environmental improvements and increasing biodiversity in our communities right across the Vale of Glamorgan, like tree planting, sowing wildflowers, and delivering Wales’ first net zero school. These actions lead towards reducing the council’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030.
I’m extremely passionate about helping to make Wenvoe and the Vale a fairer and greener place for everyone and improving our available services and opportunities, particularly for young people, in Wenvoe and across the Vale of Glamorgan.
A Vale of Glamorgan Labour Council achievement I’m particularly proud of are the two new state of the art secondary schools in Barry, delivered in collaboration with the Welsh Labour Government, of which I have personally benefitted from in the final year of my secondary education.
I am passionate about and will always strive to promote equality and diversity, encouraging the representation and participation of our LGBTQ+, BAME, disabled, young and old residents to make sure our councils reflect our diverse and vibrant communities. Everyone, no matter their background or circumstances, deserves a seat at the table and I want to make sure that everyone’s voices are heard. In the Vale of Glamorgan, many families are struggling, and this has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why campaigning to protect our community facilities in the Vale from years of Tory cuts is extremely important to me, having spent almost my whole life growing up under successive Tory governments.
