Howard Clive Hamilton
Labour County Candidate for Illtyd
A brief summary of my experiences since moving to Barry in the mid eighties and prior to that I lived in various parts of the Vale and attended Romilly Secondary School for my final two years in full time education.
Work Experience
I started my working life as a Lab. Assistant at BP Chemical Plant (Barry) for eight years. During my time at BP Chemicals, I spent seven years in part time education initially at Barry College of Further Education, Glamorgan Polytechnic and final attending Cardiff College of Advance Technology studying Polymer Chem0istry.
I was made redundant during the mid seventies and started working at Aberthaw Cement as a Shift Tester. It was whilst working at Aberthaw, I joined the T&GWU and eventually served as the Branch Secretary and their Delegate on the District and Regional Committee. I also served as the Chair of the Regional Equality Committee and represented my trade union at various Welsh and National TUC and Labour Party Conferences. After finishing up at Aberthaw, I successfully completed a series of union courses and started tutoring for the trade union. This involved writing a series of 3 day courses covering Employment Law, Health and Safety, Industrial Organising and basic Computer Skills. The completed courses where sent for approval by a outside college. I used to cover the whole of Wales delivering the 3 day course. It was
only due to the government changing the system of funding for training courses that my tutoring job came to an end.
Whilst I was tutoring I was appointed by the Ministry of Justices as Pannel Member to the Employment Tribunal, which I served as a member for over twenty years.
Working for the Community
I have served as a Barry Town Councillor and Vale County Councillor during which time I was honoured to be elected as Barry Town Council Mayor and later on as Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan County Council.
Over the years I have been a school governor, a trustee of two local charities and at present, I’m the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Gibbosdown Children Centre.
I have help organise and assist the Chairperson of Park Crescent Neighbour Hood Watch and Vale Street /Park Crescent Community Association meeting in the ward over the last fourteen years.
For many years I have raised funds for various charities and still a volunteer for Air Amblance Wales.
Throughout my working life, I have used my skills and experiences to help and assist members of my community.
If elected I will continue to serve the community of Illtyd to best of my capabilities.
