Dear Residents

Firstly, a big THANK YOU to everyone in the Vale for supporting each other over the past two years, helping neighbours and donating to local charities and food aid. Together we have weathered the storm of Covid-19 and while it’s not over yet I’m sure that with your support we will get through it.

It’s been a challenging three years since Labour took up the reins of the Vale Council. After just 10 months, the first lockdown was announced and so most of the information and achievements listed in this document were achieved against the backdrop of the pandemic.

During that time, we continued to deliver all essential services while also providing additional support for the most vulnerable in our communities. We completed five schools in just the last year, through our school building programme, which also created over 1,100 local jobs and pumped £59 million into the local economy. Over £11 million has been invested in resurfacing and repairing our roads and pavements and, after reversing Tory budget cuts, nearly £1.7 million has delivered play areas across the Vale. We currently have the sixth lowest Council Tax in Wales and have been the best performing Council in Wales since 2013.

Over the coming weeks, we will be laying out our ambitions for the next term: tackling climate change and protecting our natural environment are central to our vision of strong communities where education, employment and community facilities are all within easy reach.
I ask you to continue putting your trust in Labour and vote for Labour on 5th May so that we can continue our vision and protect your services from the financial pressures ahead.
