We recognise the huge challenge of Climate Change and the impact it will also have on our natural environment. That’s why we’re taking action. We have:
• converted 90% of street lights to LED
• world leading recycling performance with over 70% of household waste recycled
• delivered Wales’ 1st zero-carbon school
• set up the Local Nature Partnership to reconnect people from across the Vale with nature with projects including planting meadows, creating Hedgehog Highways to protect them, planting trees, installing bird and bat boxes, bee and swift bricks and carrying out wildlife and plant surveys
• invested in green infrastructure such as sustainable drainage schemes at Gladstone Road and the green wall at BSC2 by the Goodshed development
• launched major tree planting initiatives with at least 34,000 trees, mini orchards in schools and a 1,000 tree ‘Tiny Forest’ planted across the Vale
• supported the development of meadows and verges including roadside verges, Country Parks, Penarth Cliff Top and Porthkerry rewilded area
• reduced mowing to support wildflowers
• expanded the number of e-bike rentals across the Vale
